XR Commercial

'Get Real'

I was an Environment Artist and the Lead Tech on the Visual Effects Team for this commercial, which was designed for and filmed on the SCAD "Stage One" XR Stage in Savannah, GA. This was a large student driven collaborative project, created at the Savannah College of Art & Design through the joint efforts of the Film, Production Design, Immersive Reality, Visual Effects, and Interactive Gaming Design departments.

'Get Real' is now in post-production and is nearing completion.

My primary task was collaboratively creating the "Desert Gas Station" scene as well as assisting in technical and artistic issues that arose in the creation of the other three scenes. On shoot day, I also worked with the film crew to adjust anything that was necessary within the Unreal level being projected on the screen via a live link from the computer to the stage.

These are some of the early shots of the Gas Station scene in Unreal Engine 4 as well as some early tests on the XR stage.

Below are a few more images of the early development of the gas station, from concept art, to first in-engine version, to the first on-stage test.

One of my contributions to the project was creating the terrain. I made a multi-texture material blend for use in the Unreal Engine landscape texture painting tool and created a way to keep tiling to a minimum despite the large size and open spaces of the desert landscape. I was also largely responsible for the terrain sculpting, foliage, rocks, and other features through the environment.
